Male Mentoring Assemble

It was a great time at the male mentoring assemble. We was talking about ways to be a better man, what is right and what is and what isn't important to life. After the assemble, we had a real good meal. At the assemble, we was talking to Dr. Davis and his 17-year old son, Askia.

Askia Davis was talking about his entire life of how he was. He talked about what he thinks about basketball. He also talked about the way he act before and what he was listening to. Also Dr. Davis talked about his new book about Askia's life.

Coming of Age in Hip Hop Generation

On Tuesday June 4,2013 Two inspiring people help me get on the right path of life these two inspiring people were Askia Akhenaton Suleiman Ail Davis & Askia Davis these two people taught that education can be the most valuable thing in life for me I'm an athletic guy so any chance i get to go outside and play sports preferably basketball i would take that chance buy but Dr.Davis son Askia Davis explained that basketball get boring when u get older & he used himself as an example that he was a star basketball player & didn't get good grades & only finished high school

Askia Davis And His Father

On Tuesday 4th 2013 The Male Mentoring Program Had An Assembly To Meet The Author Of The Book Growing Up In The Hip Hop Generation.I Had A Great Time.Askia And His Father Told A Good Story Of His Life.Askia Played B-Ball In High School And Was A Good Player. His Life Story Was Really Interesting I Enjoyed The Program

Dr.Davis

This was a very good learning experience i believe that people would learn from this in a different way from his pass, i think that i learned a lot because he helped me learn that school is really important. The reason i say this is because school can take you very far, you can do many things if you finish school go all around the world & do more things that can benefit you in your life I'm glade that he visited owed school to talk to us.
James Frimpong

On Tuesday when we had to go to the assembly with Mr. Davis Sr, Mr. Davis Jr. We had dicussed about his booked. When he talked about some of his stories from his book. His father actually hilarious and at the end we went to eat.

Coming of Age In the Hip Hop Generation

This Tuesday two amazing people came to talk about their book Coming of the age in the hip hop generation. The book is from a 17 year olds point of view. So we are able to relate. They're names were Askia Akhenaton Suleiman Ali Davis and Askia Davis, Sr.,  They came, to explain to us that we don 't want to end up on the streets. They explain that we are young and have alot of oppurtunities ahead us.  Also how Mr. Askia was able to transform his son and have a good education and later in life have a better life.

This book provides insight on the lives of an teenager. I enjoyed the presentation it taught me to take life more seriously.

Tuesday's assembly was really fun and cool, we learned a lot from Dr. Davis and Askia Davis. They were both really funny and entertaining and inspiring. I learned that even though some people may look or act different they can be very very smart and athletic. I learned that you should never treat anyone differently because they are not like you. Also you should never out anything in front of your education because education is number 1 in life and you can't go anywhere without your education.

You should always learn from any mistake that you make in life and that's how you will succeed later on in life. Askia is very successful because he put basketball second and his academics first. Now he is still playing basketball but he is also writing books and making money.

Askia Davis and His Father

I had a good time at the assembly on Tuesday, I was giving a book about the life of Askia and hid father.  When he was actually speaking to us about life I actually listened, I was engaged and engaged of reading that book. This book might the first i actually enjoy and reads all the way. I found the father to be cool and hilarious. I found the son to be cool as well. He was a freshmen in college who was good at basketball and liked all different types of music.
I started reading the book and its type funny i read so far as 12 pages. I found that his father take yoga and practice for 90mins in a some type of heating room.
I had a great time at the assembly on Tuesday. The father and his son showed great respect and they showed us a great time. The things they talked about I learned from it. Such as finding the right woman, learning in school, and setting other things aside. I can learn about these things.
The father said that you should find the right women and like her for her. You shouldn't care what your friends say. The son said  pay attention in school and don't get mixed up with the wrong people.
The son also said set other things aside and worry about your main priorities. The assembly was educational, entertaining, and inspiring
Honestly I liked the basketball part of Askia Davis Jr. program. It made a good talk worth listening  His fathers funny stories taught a lot of life stories . He taught a lot of things like to do your work. Also to not give up at what you want.

He aslo gave inspiration to us. He taught us education is needed before sports. We also need to graduate from high school to be some one in life These to men gave hope to those who want to  make it some where.

On Tuesday, June 4th, 2013, Dr. Askia Davis Sr. And His Son,  Askia Akhenaton Suleiman Ali Davis Came To Our School And Spoke To Us About The Hip Hop Generation And Their Book. Not Only They Talked About That, They Both Talked About How It Was growing Up, Akhenaton Spoke About His Life While Growing Up Like What He Listened to, What his Parents Taught Him, When He Got Into Trouble, He Talked About Whole Lot Of Issues. It Was A Great Experiance.

Tuesday's Meeting With Dr.Davis And Askia Davis

Tuesday's meeting with Dr.Davis and Askia Davis was cool. I got to see some ball footage of him in high school. He was just dunking all on them. He can jump high like 3 feet off the ground and he's like 6"foot 3 at the age of 15. That's an amazing height at that age. I'm jealous.. I'm only 5" foot 5" inches.
They started talking about Askia when he was a little boy and how he would cut class and how his father made a scene in front of all his friends. Then they told us about how his friend Wuan told him about pornography and he went home to watch it and got caught by his mother. His mother had a master degree in computers so he was pretty much screwed. But overall I was glad to meet them i learned a few things from them and i appreciate it.
The meeting was good its was funny. The meeting was about getting to be a better person. The meeting show songs and other show videos. Both son and father had a good speech. And also it show stuff like what the son did for a living.

The father told about how he live as a kid. The father was talking about the son mistakes. And the son talk about what he did to fix himself. The speech was kinda of encouraging. Well it what i thought of the meeting.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, I had a great time learning about the mans life. It explained a lot to me about a young mans life. You can get through anything if you believe in your self. Its hard for African-American to succeed in life. But if you have support like Askia's father, you can have a great life. Dr. Davis had support for his son. He made sure he choose the right choices. His son turned out to be successful, a graduate with a masters degree. If all African-Americans were together as one, instead of committing crimes and making us look like fools. We can actually be successful....

I think Dr.Davis and his son influcened me not to listen to any website to go to and do not get active in sports. Also stop listening to inappropiate songs like waka flaka flamealso the meeting was very fun and honestly the basetball was very interesting alsowhen we watched that hip hop from back in the day was fun also the meeting was about being a better person and you should not skip class if you past it for 12 grade

Underdstanding.

I had a great time at the assembly on Tuesday . It was a great thing to hear about the young mans life style. Also to read a book that could help young men get through life. After people told him he couldn't make it , he still made it . He is a high school graduate . He didn't care about what people thought about him which is what a lot of us young men need to do in order to succeed . A lot of people in our life time hate on what they don't understand . So don't be surprised if you have a various amount of people hating you . At the end of the day , your the only person who can really help yourself , no one else . Although he made wrongs decisions in life , which everyone does because no ones perfect, he still got on track and got where he is today. Luckily he had his dad to be there and aware him of his mistakes . Its a lot of young men who don't have that male figure to help them when their in the wrong . Be that person in life who succeeds in spite of your past . We not only as young men but as people need to stop looking back . The only way to accomplish your goal is to move forward ......

the events

Today's event was crazy good. I think we all had fun because what was going. It was fun and crazy the things that they told us was the best thing. But when we went to Barclays it was the best day. we saw a lot of people like Drake Jordan and others it was to crazy.

Importance of the Cicely L. Tyson mentoring program

From my prospective being Shemar Hines, I believe my report card may have been slightly acceptable. Though I have a feeling I could done better, I feel I've tried hard but I could have tried harder. I say this because my mother, brother, uncle, and aunties have taught me to push and challenge myself so i could have opportunity to make it life just ones who have one. So honestly i think my report card will be OK.

Today May 4, 2013 at Cicely L. Tyson school a Tae Quan Doe teacher named Dr.Kwak visited our school to show us unique and rarely seen fighting skill. I arrived at the school so i didn't really see much of what he showed the rest of boys in the program but I know it was definitely interesting.

Now referring to a hockey game the boys mentoring program went to it was exciting because we were on television watch professional hockey players go at it. But what this program showed me is that simply being apart of school activity can friends and as we say "Homies" who make you feel comfortable

DR.KWAK

                                            DR.KWAK

We Learned How To Use Nun Chucks. I Never Did That Before At First I Kept Hitting My Self. Now I Know How To Hold It  And Use It Properly.Dr.Kwak Broke 3 Boards At The Same Time.He Did Like 150 Pushups Fast It Was Crazy.

                                  The Hockey Game

It Was The First Time I Went To A Hockey Game. I Dont Really Watch Hockey But I Went To The Game To View How It Is.It Was Fun And A Great Experience For Me.I Want To Really Go On A Basketball Trip To A Knicks Game. I Still Appreciate What Mr.DeVeaux Is Trying To Take Us Places.

samuel myrtil

today with the karate was and with Mr.carter telling us how to get money

I learn to fight form my science teacher. He is a professional kung fu fighter so he teached us how to use weapons and punch throw bricks it was awesome. At this program i also learn to save my money for the future so i can have more for the future and more to give away, SIKE.AT the male mentoring program I also learn how to blog for the first time. which would explain how I'm blogging to everyone one right now. DX

The Program Today was Fun

The program today was fun we did a lot of cool things. I learned a lot about saving up my money and how to become a wealthy man in the future. Also i learned how to do Ty Quan Do and perform different types of kicks and punches and learn how to use my energy in order to put more power into my kicks and punches. I also learned how to use Nunchucks even though i kept hurting myself with them in the process of trying to use them.

For my third marking period report card i did pretty good i just had to do a bit better in math in order to get the grades i will be satisfied with. I just have to work a little harder and a little longer in order to get where i want to be, because if i want to be a pro baseball player i will need to have the good grades.

Thanks for reading my Blog for today

Mentoring Program 4/4/13

When i went to  the hockey game i had a great time. Also i had fun because when my school had boys mentoring last year we did not go to any trips all we just did was talk from 3:00 to 8:00.Also when we were at the hockey game i learned that everything is not about fighting. Also i learned if you playing hockey your mind is not on scoring it is about teamwork and particpation and it doesent matter if your favorite team is the devils you should support the other team to.
Also abut Mr.Kwach he tought me alot about tae kwon do.

male mentoring program

                        Today with Mr.Carter and Dr.Kwak
Well, while I am in the male mentoring program I went to a hockey game and it was a very great experience for me.But, today I learned that you should finance your money. Also , I learned a little bit of Tea kwon do it was really cool, we got to use nunchuks. We also learned how to punch and break boards.
                                         Report Card
For my third cycle report card it wasn't very good it could've been a lot better than it was but, I will make sure that it improves this cycle because in my family they don't accept anything under a C. So, I have to bring my grade up or I wont be able to do anything for the summer.

Best day

When I went to the hockey it was really fun because it was my first time see a hockey game. I saw the New Jersey Devils face another team. Also, I feel that I did better on my report card than last cycle. Today, I learn to save more money for the future when I grow up. Plus, I learn how to use a break an board with one of the  high school teacher.

today

Today i learned that saving money was better then spending it for various reasons. For example Allen Ivirson was once the star player for the 76ers earning about 100 million dollars a year after spending money recklessly and buying an house for 6.3 million dollars he was left bankrupt and he eventually had to find a job after retiring from the national basketball association.I learned that saving half and spending half isn't such a bad decision.Today i also learned the fundamentals of tyekwando and had a great time at the hockey game 2 weeks ago

Mentoring

'Today was a fun day . We learned how to make money and keep it . We also learned karate.

May 3rd

Today I learned how to use and save money wisely. I also learned how to break a board and use nunchuka's .

Mentoring

I think the mentoring program was good ! :)
The program today was fun. We learn some karate thing from Mr.quake.Also what to do with your money. And we we had fun doing it.

GREAT MENTORING PROGRAM

Today I learned that you have to save your money. Not just to save. But to almost set your goal of success. And then by making more money from money you then can no longer work for someone else. But you can create your own investment.

I think that this was fun.The Hockey game was great. Also I learned that nun chucks hurts.....And GO DEVILS!!!!!!!!

What I'm going to do to improve by Armond Watkins

I told Mr. Jackson I'm going to start doing better in my classes so I can get better grades and graduate school. Mr. Jackson gave us alot of statistics on people who drop out, go to jail, and are unemployed and I don't want to become one of them. I want to be able to graduate and get a job to provide for myself and for my family when I get older. I also don't want to go to jail and not be there for my family.
I think the song started from the bottom by drake is about how he started from the bottom also meaning he was poor or didn't have that much. Then he says now his whole team is there which means that him and his friends achieved there dreams and goals in life that they wanted for a time. He had to work hard for what he got in life and he wants the credit for it and he rewards himself at times.

What I learn today by Joshua Ancion

Something new I learned from this program was that to don't let fear control your life. Always be positive avoid negative. I would get better grades in every class. Work hard to go to college and respect my family and other people. Some black people are poor living in the hood and some drop out of high school and go to jail. But, they can change their future by going to school and then go to college. Don't give up on your dream keep trying because when you set your mind on a goal you could achieve your goal. Need education to get you though life.

My thoughts by Tymyr Wilson

what i learned and will always remember is education, motivation and activation and always be prepared. preparation  meets opportunity don't think negative always be positive and i also made  the choice to let go of my anger and forgive other people and listening to drakes song started from the bottom it was meaning they never really never had enough to make it in life but now he is big and got money and keep your real friend that was there when you did not have anything not the ones that there because of your money the ones that been there thru thick and thin and the quote from malcolm x means with out education the world is pointless because most likely you will be dead are in prison

Motivation By Koran Baker

What i am going to do is get my mind straight and get my education. i intend to why because i want to have a wonderful life. I don,t want to grow up  disrespectful and no manners. If i don,t want to end up on the corner with the wrong crowd.I got to worry about me not about others. I am a young black independent man and i am going to show the world who and what i am. Their are about 68 percent of black males in prison why because they had no education and made bad decisions. But we can make a change in that just keep education basketball, football wont help you without that education. Boys tell stories about the man. We started from the bottom now were here and we are not going back to the bottom with the hood rats and drug dealers. So do what you do because if you don,t you could end up in prison . Like robert Jackson said NFL means '' not for long ''. Make that choice to get an education or prison you chose.

Understanding by Adrian Louis

Adrain Louis- Mr.Jackson's program, helped me understand that success is achieved through education motivation and activation. And to stay focused and away from the wrong crowd.

What I learned today by Anssoumane Kande

What I learned today in the Male Mentoring Program is to be yourself and to always have faith in yourself. Another thing I learned in the program is Education motivation and activation. Mr. Robert Jackson Came in and spoke to us and he really spoke out and showed what it's like to live with nothing as a boy with no father and was raised by a single mother. I'm glad i have a father in my life and I'm also lucky.

What I'll Be working on by James Frimpong

What I'll be working on is becoming more respectful to woman such as not calling them names, not attempting to lay your hands on a woman. You shouldn't not lay your hands any woman Mom, sister, cousin any one. What the song ''Started from the Bottom'' means That Drake and his friends where at the bottom and now there famous and now every body tiring their friend.

Started From The Bottom the meaning by Tyler Gardner

              Started From The Bottom

When Drake Says 'he started from the bottom and now were here' he is saying he
was at the bottom making $25 a weak or something now he is making
1 million on 1 show. He is also saying he was collecting change around his house try to buy stuff from the store and he was seeming poor. No money at all, he had something to fall back on so he started making money and trying to make it in the world. Which i guess he finally made it in the world but it seems that's the last thing he has to fallback on if some of his songs don't make it.

Male Mentoring Program by Asante Ward

From what I've experienced from this program, I've learned that a true man is not who we are "taught" to be in our community. We were taught as toddlers that loving other boys and men was the wrong way to go. We were taught that being respectful to one another by complementing each other is a "gay" thing to do. But it it really? The great motivational speakers that have came to us has made us realize that a true man isn't that. A true man doesn't disrespect or hit a women, he respects another man's difference, he is a man of his word.
The meaning of the song "Started from the Bottom" by hip hop star Drake is that people started from the lowest of the lowest. It means that they had to work to get to where they are and now they are on top. They are "here", represents that they are now something as oppose to nothing.

Started from the bottom..the meaning by Taj Hunter..

Started from the bottom now we here. work hard .Fake friends? Where your real friends at?Working every night had traffic on my way home.Story stayed the same never changed.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE SONG.......
I said I was gonna my behavior in class and learn discipline and treat people with respect but if I don't like I'm not gonna respect you because I don't like you and you don't like me.

Started from the bottom the song means to me we were low class people we were treated wrong from others and now we making our way to the top.

Started from the bottom

I can apply this to the male mentoring program because just like drake in this song we a re all young men who are at the bottom and someday we will rise to the occasion and rise to the top.

Mentor

Today i learned a lot from Mr.Jackson. I learned about Motivation,Activation, and Education.I told Mr.Jackson that I am going to work on being respectful to my elders and to focus more in school.I will forever work on this until I have fully perfected the way I act towards my elders.I will always remember the words that Mr.Jackson spoke for the last two days.
what i said was that i am gonna build my self confidence and stand up for what i believe in.If my ancestors fought and died for me,Why cant I use it wisely. We need to realize that our education is not going to be free forever. So everyone should use it wisely and have fun in life. That's why i'm going to build up my confidence.

Started from the bottom now we here means that we were giving up but now we started to wake up

Taj Hunter

I told Mr. Jackson that I would...Work on respecting women other than my mom. That means no hitting women even such as my sister. Also not to even call a women who disrespects me first a name. And I am set on fulfilling my goal.

Choices by Ryan Clark

Ok, so since I have to write a paragraph i will say  it again. What i plan on doing from now on is making the good choice. I usually make the wrong choice. Not on purpose but its messing my life up. So thats why i want to make this what i want to do.......... Talking about this song by drake.  I think it's saying that we were failing (start from the bottom) and now we getting these A's ( now we here ).

My Promise

What I Said I Was Going To Be Doing Is Improving My Reading So I Can Read Above A College Level.

What this song mean is that he started from a failure with friends that has been there with him since then and now he is rich and the same people that has been there with him since they were at the "Bottom"  and he's saying forget the people who tried to chill with him just because he just got rich "The Fake Friends".

what im gonna do

What ima do is strive to make better choices for myself.

CTS Male Mentoring Network

                                     Male mentoring
                                                        with Robert Jackson

The program is awesome and it's just very helpful to young men like me and you.  This helps people to recognize how to be responsible as a man, respectful, and to be a helping hand at all times.  Leaders in this program Robert Jackson, Mr. Deveau, Mr.O, and other teachers and administrators at CTS are trying to reach their goal by mentoring all kids in the program. So far at 10 years old I'm learning a lot about being my own gentlemen.  I learned from discipline to respect to self confidence and I'm just blown away by the effects the CTS mentoring program has effected on me.

" Discipline, respect, education, motivation, activation, this what makes the marking of a true man."

                                                                                                                   - Robert Jackson

what i am going to improve on by matthew garnett

As a student at CTS I represent them every where I go. An every one can improve anyway or another so i can improve by being just the way I am. In school people try to be some one there not and that happens to be  me sometimes or some people even try to act some one there not behind a computer or when there on a page and they have an high status. I am not best so there still room for more improvement.
This program is great. I love it its the best fun i ever had. I can really talk about my feelings and get along with people and my friends. This program has all the things i want to talk about, and i enjoy talking to my friends and peopl

Work On

I will work on how to treat woman the way they should instead of calling them names or hitting them. I will also work on how to treat people equally. Whether you went to college or not, be rich or poor, a famous or unknown person, you can still determine attitude towards treatment of people, fairness and unfairness, and degree of good and evil. Treatment comes from attitude, not from differences in personal make up.

I will also work on my grades and bring them up.  I need help with social studies. I will start doing my homework. I lastly need to work on to stop talking back.
